Company profile

Distinction Homes Australia has been building quality homes for over 24 years. We have a strong reputation in building and design excellence and have been awarded a number of major industry awards.

Managing director Metod Mohar is a registered builder and qualified carpenter of 26 years who has a wealth of experience in the residential construction industry.
His experienced team of enthusiastic trades people and professional staff are committed to building excellence. Metod believes the key to successful building is found in quality, not quantity. “We only take on a limited number of homes each year, which allows us to maintain a one on one focus with each client and their building project”. Metod is your designer, builder, supervisor and estimator - he even gets in and gets his hands dirty so you’re dealing with one person directly.

“Quality is important to my clients, the bitterness of poor workmanship lingers long after the sweetness of a low price has been forgotten. We won't give you an inexpensive quote but can guarantee a superior home you will be proud to live and relax in.”

Through consistent quality work, Distinction Homes Australia has forged successful working partnerships with a number of leading architects. Our workmanship has been recognised by the HIA, who awarded us several major industry awards in 2003 , 2004, 2005 , 2006 and 2007 !

Distinction Homes Australia offers a full compliment of design services, from home design to landscaping, pools, internal furniture, cabinetry and even custom bathroom accessories.

Your home should not only be aesthetically appealing but functional and practical with your individual needs taken into consideration. At Distinction Homes Australia we understand that once building is underway your needs or ideas may change and we are happy to accommodate them. Please peruse our client references and details of our industry awards at your leisure.

Finding the Right Builder

Not all builders are the same, many develop their own style and field of expertise through experience and training. Here are some guidelines you may find useful when selecting or working with a builder.

Write down a requirement checklist - what features should your home have to fulfil your expectations.

Work out a realistic budget with contingency allowances, remember to allow for landscaping and insurances.

Obtain a complete set of drawings and documents for your building project. You can secure these services directly by engaging a draftsperson or architect. Distinction Homes can also provide these services for your convenience.

The Quote

The quoted price is not everything. The lowest quote may cost you more in the long run!

It’s worth paying a little more to get the right builder and the right advice. Distinction Homes Australia can offer you the benefit of our experience and improve the overall functionality of your home.

Compare quotes carefully. Are you comparing apples with apples? The finished product often speaks for itself. It's very important to make sure your building quote has all the appropriate allowances - they should have as much information as possible.

The Builder's History

Always research the builder before accepting your quote. Ask the builder for a list of recent projects and take the time to speak with previous clients about their experience with Distinction Homes Australia. Inspect the builder’s work, both the interior and exterior. Have they been recognised by Industry associations?

The Contract

Prior to signing the contract, read it carefully. Understand your obligations and those of the builder.

Any variations to the signed contract will invariably lead to increased costs. Obtain a written quote from the builder for the cost of any potential variations prior to commencement of the work.

Communication

Keep communication channels open. Both client and builder can help each other to complete more easily through good, open and honest communication. Clients can assist the builder by meeting their deadlines for material selection and raising any concerns directly with the builder. Builders should promptly attend to any concerns raised by their client. Good communication is a two way street. Take an interest in the job and if you are unhappy with any matter, discuss your concerns with the builder.

Know what is necessary before you build your dream home

A complete set of working drawings includes soil tests, an engineer's report, building plumbing, drainage and planning approval.

By following these precautionary steps and making sure that everything is agreed in writing you should have a trouble free building experience.

With understanding and patience, your dream home will become a reality
